A local developer has plans for a high-traffic corner in Northland.
Walt Reiner, owner of Reiner Realty and Consultants, has combined two lots at the northwest corner of Westerville and Morse roads to create a 2.65-acre parcel designated for retail uses. One of the lots was home to Stan's Restaurant, a well-known comfort-food eatery founded in 1958. After the store was gutted by fire in April 2008, the family decided not to rebuild. Reiner purchased the property, razed the damaged building and combined the lot with a 1.45-acre parcel he owned on Morse. Reiner said he has about 15,000 square feet of space to work with, which could be combined into one building or several different structures. Future uses could include a convenience store, gas station, fast-food restaurant and discount retailer. The local developer said he's pleased with the high traffic counts in the area. An estimated 64,000 vehicles pass through the intersection daily, he said. Dave Cooper, president of the Northland Area Business Association, said he was unaware of the details but welcomes an appropriate development at the corner. Reiner's plans have not gone before the Northland Community Council's development committee, of which Cooper is a member. "I'm in favor of anything that could contribute to the landscape," he said. Cooper said he's seen many changes in the four decades he's lived in the area. For example, the former Ron Rush Lincoln-Mercury site on Morse Road will become a charter school. "I moved here in 1969 and Stan's was a mainstay," he said. "And whether it was with business associates or with family, I had gone there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm sorry to see it go."
